Meet Charin H. Davenport - Green Party Candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Michigan

Charin H. Davenport is a Vietnam Era Veteran and is currently a Special Lecturer in Writing and Rhetoric at Oakland University.  A native of Michigan, Char is on the Hazel Park Planning Commission.  She is a longtime advocate for environmental protections, public education, and human rights.  Prior to her position at Oakland University, Charin taught for several years at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta Community College, where she was named Woman of the Year by her colleagues.  She also taught high school English in Western New York and Bay County, MI for several years and was honored by the State University of New York for Teaching Excellence.  In addition to her outstanding career in education, she was a journalist and editor in Washington D.C. and Oscoda, MI, and was a sought-after Market Research Analyst on Wall Street for the global photo industry.  As the Michigan Field Organizer for The National LGBTQ Task Force, Charin spearheaded the Faith-based Gender Justice and Ally Project.  Working with numerous other Michigan-based and national organizations as a Civil Rights Activist for the past 12 years, she has been a vocal advocate and organizer for worker rights, gender and racial equality, universal single payer healthcare (Medicare for all), a strong public education system, investments in renewable energies that will help preserve our waterways and forests for future generations, the legalization of marijuana, and the health and welfare of Michigan Military Veterans.  Among her most recent projects, Charin has worked with families and faith leaders to end the immensely destructive practice of "Gay Conversion Therapy" in Michigan.  Nothing is nearly as important to her as her two cats, one dog, three children, two grandchildren, and her many, many friends throughout Michigan.
